Letter from the Editor
The journal Papers and Studies in Contrastive Linguistics (PSiCL) has published contributions in the area of contrastive linguistics for almost thirty years. The Journal has accompanied the series of international conferences on contrastive linguistics, originated and organised annually by the School of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. The founder of both the Journal and the conference series as well as of the Poznań Polish-English Contrastive Project was Professor Jacek Fisiak, Head of the School of English. Thanks to his initiative, Poznań has functioned as a recognised centre for the international exchange of ideas in the area of contrastive linguistics. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for this outstanding contribution to Polish and international linguistics. I must also thank all the members of the Advisory Board for their services over the years.
In 1997, Poznań Linguistic Meetings (PLMs) replaced the former International Conferences on Cross-Language Studies. PLMs focus on theoretical and methodological issues in linguistic research and so will the Journal, renamed as Poznań Studies in Contemporary Linguistics (with no change to the abbreviation PSiCL) as of volume 35, 1999. I would like to welcome the new Advisory Board, composed of specialists in all fields of linguistics, who have kindly agreed to offer their services to the Journal.
The idea of the new PSiCL is to bring together linguists of various theoretical backgrounds who are interested in finding solutions to questions pertinent to linguistics. Apart from regular contributions with a theoretical impact on any area of linguistics, we invite discussion papers and reply articles as well as review articles and reviews. Theme issues, reflecting the topics of PLMs' workshops or special sessions, are also planned. The Journal's commitment will be to a broad coverage of contemporary linguistic theories.
Welcome to the new PSiCL!
